About Me
My name is Olivia Huckemeyer and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in New York. I graduated from Touro College in 2022 with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In my years of being a therapist, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings including private practice and intensive outpatient care where I have supported clients through life’s challenges and transitions.

My experience spans a range of areas but is not limited to addiction, anxiety, depression, women’s issues, life transitions, and personality disorders. Whether you’re seeking individual therapy, couples counseling, or family therapy, my goal is to create a safe and collaborative space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered.

I’ve always been drawn to understanding people’s stories, the moments that shape us, the challenges that test us, and the quiet strengths we often don’t see in ourselves. Therapy with me is a collaborative process. I believe you’re the expert on your own life and my role is to help you uncover the tools, insights, and confidence you already hold. I bring an open, warm, and non-judgmental presence to the therapeutic space while also challenging my clients to facilitate growth and self-discovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)?
A Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) is a professional trained to support people with their emotional, mental, and relational wellbeing. Becoming an LMHC requires years of graduate-level education, supervised clinical training, and passing state licensure exams — which means I’m qualified to provide therapy that is both compassionate and evidence-based.
What types of issues do you specialize in?
I work with adults, teens, and couples. I primarily focus on women’s issues, relationships, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and personality disorders.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I accept the following insurances: Oscar (Optum), Quest Behavioral Health, Oxford (Optum), Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield New York (formerly Empire), United Healthcare Medicare Advantage, United Healthcare (Optum), Carelon Behavioral Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Aetna.
The platforms I use are Headway and Alma; these platforms will run a verification of benefits before we meet to ensure you are covered and provide you with a good faith estimate on what you are responsible for financially.
What is your fee if I pay out of pocket?
The standard session fee is $150 for 45 minutes. I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots depending on availability.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, I am currently seeing New York and Florida therapy clients virtually.
I also see New York therapy clients in person on Sunday afternoons.
My office address is 732 Smithtown Bypass, Suite 202 Smithtown, NY 11787
What happens in the first session?
Your first session is really about getting to know each other. Think of it as a gentle starting point rather than “jumping right in.” We’ll spend time talking about what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to work on, and what you hope to get out of our time together. I may ask questions about your background, history, and current challenges, but you’re always in control of what you share — there’s no pressure to tell me everything at once.
What if I don’t feel like we are the right fit?
Finding the right therapist is an important part of the healing process. If at any point you feel that our work together isn’t the best fit for you, that’s completely okay. This is your journey, and you deserve to feel comfortable and supported. I encourage you to advocate for yourself, and if you’d like, I’ll happily provide referrals to other trusted therapists who may be a better match.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can reach out through my contact form, email, or phone. I provide 15-minute free consultation calls before moving forward with scheduling. I’ll get back to you within 24–48 hours to set up a time that works best for you.
